Getting Over Stage Fright PART 1

Ahhhh stage fright, don’t you just love it? Nothing better than having something that stops you from doing something that you love to do right?… right?… Of course not!! Stage fright is one of the most frustrating things for a performer to deal with because it can be so debilitating and can stop us from singing and performing in front of others. This can be really upsetting if you love doing those things and have the urge to share them with an audience, but can’t because you are too afraid. So I wrote this article to hopefully help you learn to battle that stage fright and learn to get past it in the blink of an eye!

The most annoying part about stage fright is that it is a problem that we create in our own mind. Nothing outside of ourselves have put it in our way which is frustrating but also the key to getting over it. This is because if we create this problem in our head, there is nothing stopping us from undoing it. We have complete freedom over how we make ourselves feel about this problem and with that power comes the opportunity to relearn how to think about it. So keep reading and lets get to rethinking that pesky stage fright.

One of my personal favorite ways to think of stage fright differently is by thinking of it as stage “excitement” rather than “fright”. This helps because often times feeling nervous and feeling excited can have very similar side effects so instead of framing the feeling as something negative and frightful, you need to frame it as something more positive and exciting. Because the truth is, if you felt absolutely nothing before getting ready to perform, then there would be nothing fun about performing. There needs to be some of that nervous excitement before doing something for it to be worth it when you actually go to do it. So step one is start thinking of stage fright as stage excitement and realize that it is actually necessary in making a performance so enjoyable.
